Does niv-mizzet, the firemind go infinite with Curiosity?

Asked by Poopernoodles 9 years ago

So Niv-Mizzet, the Firemind states that whenever i draw a card he deals 1 damage to target creature or player. if i enchant him with Curiosity would he go infinite? Curiosity says every time enchanted creature deals damage to an opponent you may draw a card. it doesn't specify that it must be combat damage. does that mean the pings of Niv-mizzet create an infinite loop?

You would be correct for the reasons you stated. Since Curiosity only cares if the creature dealt damage to an opponent, you'll be able to draw a card if you wish, pinging your opponent for 1, letting you draw another card, etc.

Scratch that, you'd go pseudo-infinite. Since you only have so many cards in your library, the sequence will stop when you have no cards left, the game ends, or you decide to not draw a card. That's the important thing to note, is that Curiosity's ability is a "may" ability. Sometimes cards will cause an unbreakable loop of effects that can cause the game to end in a draw because no player is able to obtain priority anymore.
