Does Mercurial Pretender keep his copied abilites?

If Mercurial Pretender copies Phytotitan and dies, will it return to the battile field tapped like Phytotitan, or will it lose the abilite and die?

Mercurial Pretender will die as a Phytotitan, so its ability will trigger. It will be returned to the battlefield tapped under its owner's control at the beginning of his or her next upkeep.

However, Mercurial Pretender's own replacement effect will also apply, so you may have Mercurial Chemister enter the battlefield as a copy of any creature you control. It won't be a Phytotitan again unless you choose to copy a Phytotitan.
