Does Hushwing Gryff effect cards that are not yet in play (on the battlefield)?

Asked by CaptainCaveman 9 years ago

Does Hushwing Gryff as an example stop Reclamation Sage 's ability from triggering? or a Nylea's Disciple ? or are we just talking about triggers that happen via a permanent already on the battlefield that has some kind of ETB trigger , like with any of the constellation stuff , etc.

Thanks in advance.

Hushwing Gryff stops any abilities that trigger upon a creature entering the battlefield. This means it stops cards with an effect when they enter the battlefield like Nylea's Disciple . It also stops cards that trigger when a creature enters the battlefield like Intruder Alarm .

Hushwing Gryff 's ability just states "creatures entering the battlefield don't cause abilities to trigger." It doesn't matter whether the abilities are written on the creatures entering the battlefield or have some other source. If the ability would trigger because a creature enters the battlefield, it doesn't.

So I forgot something.

Hushwing Gryff will stop constellation if the enchantment that is entering the battlefield is a creature.

Yes, as long as it is a creature entering the battlefield. If constellation would trigger off a Banishing Light then this would not be affected by Hushwing Gryff and would trigger constallation normally.

EddCrawley you are wrong. Hushwing Gryff does not stop constellation off enchantment creatures. it stops the creature ability, however constellation still triggers as the card is an enchantment in addition to its other types.

" A constellation ability triggers whenever an enchantment enters the battlefield under your control for any reason. Enchantments with other card types, such as enchantment creatures, will also cause constellation abilities to trigger."

@Khanye: You're incorrect. Hushwing Gryff absolutely does stop constellation from triggering if it would trigger as a result of an enchantment creature entering the battlefield. Hushwing Gryff 's ability doesn't check whether the triggered ability checks for a creature. It checks whether the triggered ability would trigger as the result of a permanent, that happens to be a creature, entering the battlefield.
