Does Haunt activate again if you resurrect?

Asked by Jwako 7 years ago

If i haunt Gravecrawler with Cry of Contrition, sacrifice Gravecrawler, cast it from the graveyard and sacrifice it a second time, does the haunt effect still activate with the second sacrifice? I can't seem to find any rulings about this anywhere.

Questions like this ought to be asked in the Q&A section.

In order to haunt a creature, you must exile the card Cry of Contrition from your graveyard and it will target a creature to haunt.

Whenever a card changes zones, it becomes a new entity with no knowledge of previous existences in other zones. So when you cast Gravecrawler from the graveyard, it will not be the same Gravecrawler that you targeted to haunt. Therefore, if it goes to the graveyard a second time, nothing will happen in regards to Cry of Contrition.

I couldn't find the Q&A for some reason while browsing the forum earlier.

Thanks for clearing the question up anyway.

Note that haunt cannot be activated because it isn't an activated ability. It's a triggered ability, therefore it triggers. The distinction between the two can be important in some cases, especially with cards like Panharmonicon.
