Does Gyrus, Waker of Corpses synergise with Unbound Flourishing?

Unbound Flourishing is a recently spoiled card from Modern Horizons. It's not yet in the database here.

Unbound Flourishing 2G Enchantment

Whenever you cast a permanent spell with a mana cost that contains X, double the value of X.

Whenever you cast an instant or sorcery spell or activate an ability, if that spell's mana cost or that ability's activation cost contains X, copy that spell or ability. You may choose new targets for the copy.

I have it on the battlefield.

I cast Gyrus, Waker of Corpses and pay 2 mana for the X portion of its spell with no other cost reductions or additions, so a total mana investment of 5.

The value of X would be doubled from 2 to 4. I suspect that means jack, as Gyrus will still see that I have spent 5 total mana on it, and so will enter with five +1/+1 counters. Or does changing the value of X 'trick' Gyrus into entering with an additional two counters?

As an aside, Gyrus the only card I know that has an X in its cost but not a direct and exact correlation in its rules text. Are there any others like this? I don't know how to run a search for that in gatherer.

Unfortunately no, this doesn't work. Unbound Flourishing will only do what it says, doubling the value of X. The total amount of mana you spent to pay for the spell will still be whatever you actually paid. There's no interaction at all with Gyrus, Waker of Corpses .

To answer your second question, there are three cards with variable casting costs where X is not directly referenced:

You can use the ≈ sign in the Mana cost section to search for X, then use NOT " X " (spaces inside quotes are important) in the Rules Text section to cut down a lot of the cards that are non-responsive.

would Unbound flourishing offset his Commander tax though? So say you've played gyrus 3 times and its destroyed, the fourth time you go to cast it Unbound flourishing is on the table, it's technically going to cost an additional 8 Mana to cast. If I pay 4 mana for x will Unbound flourishing bumping it to 8 cover the commander cost?

@GolgariGrim: Unbound Flourishing doesn't do anything to the cost you're required to pay while casting the spell, as it only triggers after the casting process is completed (the last step of the casting process is paying costs). It just affects the value of X a spell/ability will use as it resolves.

If you choose X=4 in your example while casting Gyrus then the spell will cost a total of . Unbound Flourishing will then trigger and double the value of X to 8, but that still doesn't have any effect on Gyrus.
