Does Gift of Immortality return to a creature that died and was brought back?

Asked by Neoxtreem 9 years ago

I have a question regarding Gift of Immortality :

When the enchanted creature dies, the creature is brought back to the battlefield instantly.

What would happen if that creature somehow died afterwards and was resurrected again? Would Gift of Immortality still return to the creature although it left the battlefield in the meantime?

I guess a similar scenario would be when I blink the creature when Gift is in my graveyard.

Btw there was a similar question directly concerning Karmic Guide , however I did not get it at first glance. Maybe someone can clarify the interaction in general.

When a card leaves the battlefield, the game completely loses track of it unless something on a card specifically says it will track it through the zone change. Gift of Immortality returns the card which was the enchanted creature to the battlefield and then "that creature" will have the Gift reattached to it at the beginning of the next end step. Should that creature die again, even if you bring it back through some other means, it will be treated by the game as a new object and Gift won't see it as the original creature to reattach.

Gift of Immortality will not reattach itself. This is because whenever a card changes zones it is considered a new object with no memory of its previous places. So when the delayed trigger of Gift of Immortality looks for the creature it brought back to reattach itself, it will not find it because it isn't there.
