Does Djinn Illuminatus trigger Guttersnipe ?

Asked by bitchtits74 8 years ago

OK so say if I cast Lightning Bolt and replicated it using Djinn Illuminatus does that count as a recast spell triggering Guttersnipe ? I'm only asking because I was under the impression a copy like Twincast or Reverberate is different to a copy and because copies go on the stack they count as newly cast spells.

Short answer: No.

Longer answer: The key word is cast. Guttersnipe cares about spells that are cast. Copies of spells are put directly on the stack and are not considered cast.

so both replicate and copies are not recasts?

I recall two ways of copying instants/sorceries.

  • Abilities and effects that copy a spell directly from the stack, like replicate does, would not trigger Guttersnipe, as Boza said.
  • Effects that copy the card and allow you to cast the copy, for example Isochron Scepter or Hidden Strings, will provide trigger events for Guttersnipe.
