Does Lymph Sliver's absorb ability stack?

Asked by JoyTheEnbySliverLover 5 years ago

The rule text states: - "All Sliver creatures have absorb 1. (If a source would deal damage to a Sliver, prevent 1 of that damage.)"

Does that mean absorb 1 prevent 1 damage extra for each sliver that is on the battlefield? Or does each sliver only get 1 damage prevented?

Just a little confused. All answers are greatly appreciated.

They do stack but not like that.

The slivers in play all get absorb 1. So only one instance of absorb 1 per sliver unless something else gives it absorb again. So if there were two lymph slivers in play, each sliver will have absorb 2.

pskinn01, you haven't answered my question. Does absorb only prevent just 1 damage or 1 damage for each sliver?

Found my answer. Thanks.

I generally do not like to try to change the answer, but part of the point of the Rules Q&A section is allowing future users with the same question to quickly find answers.

In this case, pskinn01 did indeed answer the question - that each sliver will only receive Absorb 1 - so I have gone ahead and changed the answer to their post.

Slight point of clarification, since I realised after I posted the source of the confusion. Lymph Sliver ’s reminder text is a bit confusing. It becomes more clear if you know the rule for Absorb:

Rule 702.63a: Absorb is a static ability. "Absorb N" means "If a source would deal damage to this creature, prevent N of that damage."
