Does Aetherflux Lifelink work?

Asked by V017r0n 4 years ago

Ok. Thanks for seeing my post. Now, here’s for the question. There are plenty of spells that make Artifacts into creatures (Ensoul Artifact) ?). If I do that to my (Aetherflux Reservoir), and pay my 50 life, then deal 50 damage to someone, do I gain 50 life from lifelink (assume I gave it to the reservoir with something like (Basilisk Collar) ) ? If so, can I activate it again?

Last question, if I have exactly 50 life, then activate, do I still die (assuming it still has lifelink)? Sorry for not linking cards. I forgot how. Last time I came here, I thought my post didn’t work, so cut it all from memory :)

Yes and yes.

Lifelink functions on any form of damage, and is not limited to creatures either. If Aetherflux Reservoir has lifelink for any reason, even if it is not a creature, then when its activated ability deals damage it will cause its controller to gain that much life.

As for the second part, costs are paid in order to put a spell or ability onto the stack, so you pay 50 life to put an ability onto the stack that deals 50 damage to a target. Then, before you would get priority again, the game checks for state based actions, which includes players losing the game for having 0 or less life. Additionally, if you do lose the game this way, all abilities you control on the stack are removed, so Aetherflux would never even deal the damage in this case.
