Does Abyssal Gatekeeper prevent opponents from countering Dash hopes when they're at 5 life or less?

Asked by EverythingIsK 8 years ago

Abyssal Gatekeeper's ability prevents opponents from losing the game. So if I played Dash Hopes, and they are at 5 or less life, I figure that they can't counter the spell because they can't pay the life, because it would cause them to lose the game and they can't lose the game.

They can. They just won't lose the game for having 0 life.

I realize I am about 2 weeks late on this, but I haven't gone through answered questions for a while. If a player is at 5 life they can pay to counter Dash Hopes. This has no interaction with Abyssal Persecutor, they can pay the life if he isn't out. They would just lose the game as a SBA the next time a player would receive priority and he prevents that so the move is less futile.

If a player is below 5 life they can not pay to counter Dash Hopes even if their opponent does have an Abyssal Persecutor. You can not pay life you do not have.
