Does a Blaze Commando go infinite with Comeuppance?

Asked by CkajLanoa 7 years ago

This may not work, but I just put together that Blaze Commando would get an infinite number of triggers if you resolved a Comeuppance and, say, Lightning Bolt targeting yourself. Does this work? My theory was that you bolting yourself would have the damage prevented by Comeuppance, which would then deal you that much damage, be prevented, dealt; ect. Each of these getting a Blaze Commando trigger. Am I wrong?

That doesn't work because Comeuppance only prevents damage from sources you don't control. If you bolt yourself, Comeuppance won't interact with it and you'll just take 3 damage.

It also doesn't work because no damage was ever dealt, it was all prevented. If say an opponent tries to Lightning Bolt you and you Comeuppance in response and then they Comeuppance in response to that. You wouldn't get any tokens from Blaze Commando because no damage was ever dealt. The game would actually end in a draw because infinite loop of triggers as well.
