Do multiple Ragged Veins effects stack on 1 creature?

Asked by ------ 8 years ago

Hi,I searched for it, but there's no rules explanation from wizards.

Question:

Opponent has 1 creature, I enchant it with 2 Ragged Veins. (both on the same creature)

Now my Shivan Meteor comes crushing in for 13 damage.

Will both auras trigger and do 2x 13 = 26 damage?

Yes, they will. Note that it's loss of life that will be inflicted on the player, not damage.

Ragged Veins' trigger condition is any damage dealt to enchanted creature. So if 2 are on the same creature they will both trigger.

Note that even if the creature dies from Shivan Meteor, the 2 triggers will still resolve as normal, making your opponent lose a total of 26 life (13 life 2 times).

The key thing to know here is that an ability that starts with "when", "whenever", or "at" is a triggered ability, and multiple instances of the same triggered ability will all trigger when the specified event happens.

Follow up question: Does Binding Agony stack in the same way? The old phrasing is throwing me off...

The current Oracle text for any card can always be found on the Gatherer website. According to Binding Agony's entry, it also uses a triggered ability. It works the same way as the above explanation for Ragged Veins.
