Do +1/+1 counters stay on man-lands when they're not creatures?

Asked by Jimmy_Chinchila 8 years ago

If I was to put a +1/+1 counter on a Mutavault or Blinkmoth Nexus when in creature mode, do the counters stay on at end of turn when they go back to being non-creature lands? If something's enchanted or equipped and it's no longer a legal target, the aura is destroyed or equipment removed (I think, seems logical) so wouldn't the creature-specific counter be removed? I'm hoping they stay but don't know the specific rule wording in regards to this subject. I'm sure any Affinity player could answer the question but I don't know anyone who runs it, and I'm looking to make one (interested in Blinkmoth Nexus + Steel Overseer interaction.). I saw a prior thread that was more interested in whether Overseer could put a counter on Mutavault or not, and there were some conflicting answers in regards to whether the counters stayed. Thanks in advance!!

Counters are not type or subtype specific. They're not limited to creatures. So they'll remain on a permanent regardless of what types it has or loses.

Also, enchantments are not destroyed for being attached to illegal objects (not targets; auras only target on the stack). They're just put into their owner's graveyard.

Epochalyptik thank you kindly sir! I considered asking you directly but figured other readers could benefit from the exchange. That would explain why Steel Overseer is often a 4-of in Modern Affinity decks. Thanks for clearing up the aura thing for me too
