Decking Everyone at Same Time?

Asked by NoPantsParade 9 years ago

My friends and I were playing a game of commander last night, and I managed to play a Skyscribing for 40 with Hive Mind out under my control (if that matters) on my turn. With two other players left, everyone drew 120 cards, decking everyone, including myself. We couldn't figure out who won or what happened, so we just called it a draw. Who would win in this situation if everyone were decked at the same time?

Thanks.

Losing because you tried to draw a card from an empty library is one of the State Based Actions (SBAs), and SBAs are checked and executed simultaneously, right before each time a player would get priority. If one of those Skyscribings caused each player to deck out during its resolution, the game would end in a draw.

The fact that this involves Hive Mind can be very important, depending on how many cards are left in each library. The 120 cards aren't all drawn at once, but in 40-card groups as each Skyscribing resolves. It's possible that one or more players may lose because of one of them, but another player is still in the game before the next one starts resolving.

It was late game, and decks were likely under 80 cards, especially after playing New Frontiers for 20 the previous turn, so by the second Skyscribing , I think everyone would have lost. But I do get what you're trying to say.
