Deathtouch + Trample
Asked by AjaxSlumbering 1 week agoLets say that I have an 8/8 with deathtouch and trample, I attack someone and they block with a vanilla 4/4, how much damage do they take?
They take a maximum of 7 damage. Trample requires you to assign lethal damage to all blockers first, then you may assign excess damage to the player or Planeswalker being attacked.
With Deathtouch, 1 damage is considered lethal, so you may assign excess damage to the defending player or Planeswalker.
Hypothetically, you could assign up to 8 damage to the creature, and have 0 damage trample over. The situations where you would want this are few and far between (ex. Multiplayer game where you can’t attack player A, but player B has a Stuffy Doll linked to A. You could attack B, assign all 8 damage to the Stuffy Doll, so A ends up taking 8 damage).
