Deahtouch and trample

Asked by darkmatter32x 6 years ago

My opponent is attacking with a 6/6 with deathtouch and trample.

I blocked with my 3/3 creature. How much damage am I taking?

You will take 5 damage.

Deathtouch means that any amount of damage is considered lethal damage.

Trample means that when combat damage is assigned, that creature may assign only what damage is necessary to be lethal to a blocking creature and the remaining damage may be assigned to the defending player.

The interaction of trample and deathtouch means that only one point of damage is needed to assign lethal damage to a blocker and all of the remaining damage may be assigned to the defending player.

RicketyEng I love it when I'm right. Someone told me it's 3 damage, and claimed he is right because he used to play in star city games tournament blah blah.

702.19b The controller of an attacking creature with trample first assigns damage to the creature(s) blocking it. Once all those blocking creatures are assigned lethal damage, any remaining damage is assigned as its controller chooses among those blocking creatures and the player or planeswalker the creature is attacking.
