Curator of mysteries, how does the scry trigger work?

Asked by Bockduck 6 years ago

I have Curator of Mysteries on the field and cycles a card.

Does the triggered ability from the curator happen first and I scry or do I draw first then scry?

Huh, for some reason Curator of Mysteries doesn't have a working link.

You scry first. Abilities that trigger when you cycle something trigger when you activate the cycling ability. That is, they trigger when you pay the cycling cost and discard the card. The trigger will be put onto the stack on top of the cycling ability, itself, and will resolve before the cycling ability starts to resolve. You'll always end up drawing the card from cycling last (you don't have a choice for how to order the abilities).

Scry first. This is because when you activate cycling, you pay its cost, including discarding the card that has it, and it's put onto the stack, at which point Curator triggers and you put his ability on the stack on top of Cycling. So the trigger will resolve first, then the card draw from cycling.

This is exactly why I've been excited to use Curator since he was spoiled, scrying before each cycle sounds amazing.

@Rhadamanthus

This has been an issue with a few of the cards from Amonkhet. I'm not entirely sure why, but putting the set abbreviation in the code seems to fix it

[[Curator of Mysteries (AKH)]]

becomes Curator of Mysteries

Thanks for the tip. I didn't even know set abbreviations could be added to card links!
