Crack Open and Manifest??

I was browsing through my Onslaught commons, and I found this card. Break Open, turn target face down creature an opponent controls face up. But then I wondered, what if my opponent has manifested a card, say a Shock. First off, can I target that face-down with Break Open, and second, if I can, would it resolve, or what? Neither option seems to make sense to me, as how could I know if the manifested card is a creature face-up as well?

Rule 701.31e says"if a manifested permanent represented by an instant or sorcery card would be turned face up, it's controller reveals it and leaves it face down. Abilities that would trigger whenever a permanent is turned face up, do not trigger."

So, what happens is, you cast Break Open, they reveal Lightning Bolt, and put it back face down, and then nothing happens :P
