Copy interactions concerning: *cast* and *entering the battlefield*

Asked by CasualCucumber 4 years ago

I have a few questions regarding the copy ability.

So I am building a deck around Riku of Two Reflections and I was wondering about the second ability concerning creatures with the keyword When you cast and enters the battlefield.

For example if I copied a Desolation Twin - Would the ability be activated twice resulting in 4 creatures with 10/10?

__

If I copy a card with when entering the battlefield such as Reclamation Sage , would it then result in two independent Reclamation Sage s who both trigger their ability when entering?

__

If a Progenitor Mimic copies the card Desolation Twin - That wouldn't count as casting the spell? Which would result in Progenitor Mimic ending up as just two basic 10/10s.

Thanks for any help :)

First you should note that cast and enter the battlefield are not the same thing. Riku's cast trigger relates only to instants and sorceries, while his second ability is creature related and triggers on a nontoken creature entering the battlefield.

Using your examples this results in the following: You cast Desolation Twin and get 10/10 token that enters the battlefield. It is a token and thus does not trigger Riku. Then Desolation Twin resolves and enters the battlefield, triggering Riku. You pay and get a copy of Desolation Twin . Total of 3 10/10 creatures.

You cast Reclamation Sage and it resolves. It enters the battlefield triggering Riku and its own ETB. You order them in whatever order you like as they are simultaneous but say sage ETB ot top. You blow up an artifact, then pay and create another copy of Reclamation Sage , which enters as well and puts its own ETB on the stack and blows up another artifact. Total of 2 Reclamation Sage and 2 destroy artifact triggers.

You cast Progenitor Mimic it resolves and you choose to become a copy of Desolation Twin as it enters. It doesn't trigger any on cast trigegrs from the object being copied. It is nontoken however and upon entering the battlefield triggers Riku, you can now pay and make another copy of Progenitor Mimic having enter as another copy of Desolation Twin . Total of 3 10/10s (1 original, 1 from progenitor and 1 from progenitor token.)
