Confront the Unknown + Zada, Hedron Grinder

Asked by krunchyfrogg 7 years ago

Let's say I have 5 creatures on the field and one Zada, Hedron Grinder. If I cast Confront the Unknown on Zada, does the investigate feature get duplicated or do I just get +1/+1 to every creature I control?

TIA

You copy the spell, which means you actually place an additional object on the stack for each of your other creatures. These copy have all of the instructions of the original spell, so you'll investigate and buff for each copy.

Note that the number of clues will change as you resolve each copy, so you can manipulate the order of the copies to control which creatures receive the biggest boosts.

As it says on Zada, it will copy any spell you cast that has a single target and targets Zada. That is true if you cast Confront the Unknown, so the spell will be copied for your other 5 (or however many) creatures. Since the spell includes the instruction to investigate, you do that six times in total (once for the original spell targetting Zada).

Note that the order in which you put the triggers on the stack matters here - assuming you had no previous Clue tokens and noone destroys or cracks clue tokens in the meantime, the last copy put on the stack will get the creature it targets +1/+1, the second-to-last +2/+2, and so on. Zada will always get +6/+6, as the original spell always resolves last.

My answer of course should have said "the order in which you put the copies on the stack matters here"
