commander rules of infect

Asked by olowleye 12 years ago

ive been blessed today with my first legendary creature...its Skithiryx, the Blight Dragon ..so ive began making a EDH deck an was wondering if my commander skithiryx has to meet 11 poisen counters to defeat opponent...as a commander without infect has to meet 21 to defeat opponent?

The official number of poison counters required to kill in EDH is 10, regardless of their source. If Skithiryx, the Blight Dragon somehow loses infect (Melira, Sylvok Outcast , Everlasting Torment , etc.), then it must have dealt a total of 21 damage (this total includes any damage previously dealt as infect damage) to a single opponent to kill that player.

Note that some EDH playgroups have increased the number of poison counters required for death to 20 to make the game more balanced. Always ask your local groups what their preferences are.

I think 15 is a bit more reasonable since it's a four player format. As only one person is likely dealing infect damage to rack up 20 on players can be almost impossible while for everyone else life total is all that matters, "working together" in a way.

Ya but you responded and I found it when looking for answers myself. Old yes but still relevant with the release of Atraxa, Praetors' Voice.

Epochalyptik, I agree with ZaneOlric3. This post is still read and relavent, and he wasn't just reanswering the question, he was adding something legitimate that had yet to be addressed.
