Colorless commanders... Colorless spells? (If this is in the wrong forum i apologize)

Asked by Pskytzo 6 years ago

Bought the new commander decks, and looking at the pamphlet for the Draconic Domination deck it has a few suggestions for alternative commanders including Ramos, Dragon Engine so idk if they are suggesting you make a colorless commander deck or implying that you can use it with this deck... Please site any rules or your sources for validity.

I think that this is what you are looking for

903.4. The Commander variant uses color identity to determine what cards can be in a deck with a certain commander. The color identity of a card is the color or colors of any mana symbols in that card’s mana cost or rules text, plus any colors defined by its characteristic-defining abilities (see rule 604.3) or color indicator (see rule 204).

So long story short, yes Ramos, Dragon Engine can be used with this deck

To be clear, since it wasn't specifically stated: even though Ramos, Dragon Engine is colorless because of the mana symbols in its cost, its color identity is because of the symbols printed in its text box. That's what matters for Commander deck construction.
