chulane + sudden substitution

if I were to respond to a spell by targeting a creature I control with Chulane, Teller of Tales and then in response use Sudden Substitution swapping that same creature with the desired spell, would that creature still bounce to hand upon resolution or would the ability fizzle because that creature is is no longer a legal bounce target?

The creature would no longer be a legal target and the ability would fizzle.
