"Cheating"

Asked by GlistenerAgent 9 years ago

I came across the following while watching the SCG Legacy Open this weekend.

If my opponent uses the first ability of Jace, the Mind Sculptor on me, and afterwards I use a Scalding Tarn, does looking at the top card that my opponent left there count as cheating? It seemed like gaining an unfair advantage, as the ability of Scalding Tarn does not allow you to do so.

Why does it feel like cheating? They got to see the card and place it there due to an effect, and you get to view it due to an effect? Searching wasn't made with the idea of not letting you view cards, and until you shuffle there's nothing saying change the order.

701.15a. To search for a card in a zone, look at all cards in that zone (even if it's a hidden zone) and find a card that matches the given description.

That definition of searching certainly helped. :) Thanks!
