Chandra, Pyromaster's ultimate interpretation

Asked by raphael75 5 years ago

The wording on Chandra, Pyromaster's ultimate states:

−7: Exile the top ten cards of your library. Choose an instant or sorcery card exiled this way and copy it three times. You may cast the copies without paying their mana costs.

Since it says "you may cast the copies without paying their mana costs", does that mean you can choose to pay their mana costs if, for example, it has {x} in the mana cost?

No, you can't.

Normally you can't cast spells during the resolution of a spell or ability. The exception is when you're casting that spell because of that spell or ability, like with Chandra, Pyromaster, and in that case, you must use the alternative casting cost in question.

Read it more like, "You may cast that copy (but must use this alternative cost)."
