celestial dawn to blood moon interaction

Asked by kylothian 9 years ago

can Celestial Dawn be played before Blood Moon hits the field to turn all lands you control into basic plains so blood moon doesn't affect your lands? if this doesn't work then why?

Yes, Celestial Dawn will prevent Blood Moon from turning your non-basic lands into mountains, because they have already become basic plains due to the ability of Celestial Dawn .

Note that if Celestial Dawn had an effect like Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth that stated that they were basic plains in addition to their other types, then Blood Moon would still affect them, and they would become mountains and plains, if both enchantments were on the field.

Celestial Dawn doesn't give any land the Basic supertype. It just gives them the subtype "Plains". Your nonbasic lands will still be nonbasic, and will be affected by Blood Moon .

I forgot to add: If you play them in the other order, Blood Moon -> Celestial Dawn, then you'll get what you want. All your lands will be Plains because Celestial Dawn has a more recent timestamp than Blood Moon.
