Cascade and zero mana cost

If I have Maelstrom Nexus in play and I cast a Mox Emerald as the 1st spell, does the cascade trigger for another 0 CMC card like another Mox or tries for a -1 CMC card and comes back empty?

It comes up empty, but you exile your library face up, then shuffle the cards back in.
