Canopy cover question

Asked by The_Lost_Primarch 7 years ago

Is the effect that Canopy Cover grants the same as Hexproof or is it more like Shroud?

For example, if I put Canopy Cover on my Llanowar Elves for some reason, can I use it as a target for Giant Growth? The rulings say "This is not the same as hexproof. If, for example, you target one of your opponents creatures, your opponents wont be able to target their own creature with spells or abilities." but the text seems pretty clear that it's hexproof.

If you enchant a creature you control with Canopy Cover it will act like hexproof, allowing you to target your creature and stopping your opponent. The reason it's not like hexproof is if you instead enchant an opponent's creature with Canopy Cover (an odd choice, I know) it will stop them from targeting their own creature while still letting you target it. If it gave the creature hexproof, it would work exactly the same when enchanting your creature (well, except for how it interacts with things like Bonds of Mortality), but very differently when enchanting an opponent's creature.

I was considering not putting it back in my deck after checking the rulings. Thanks for the clarification, mate!

There are times this can useful, but Vines of Vastwood is a better option for that. Nothing like playing against Infect and dropping Vines (unkicked) on their attacking creature that they're pumping.
