Can you still dredge with Life from the Loam after activating Sylvan Library

Asked by BooMoo 8 years ago

During my draw phase I am able to activate Sylvan Library and I just so happen to have a Life from the Loam in the graveyard. Am I able to activate the library look at the three cards decide I don't want any of them in my hand and dredge them instead with the loam?

Negative.

The library doesn't let you look at ANY cards, it lets you draw two additional cards after you've drawn your normal one for the turn, and then put up to two cards back. You have to decide to replace a draw with a dredge. You must replace a draw with a dredge before you draw it.

Note that Sylvan Library doesn't have any activated abilities. It has a triggered ability that triggers at the beginning of your draw step.

Also note, that if you choose to draw two extra cards with Sylvan Library and replace one draw with a dredge, you'll still have to choose among the two remaining cards you drew this turn, to pay 4 life or put them back. If you replace both Library draws with a dredge you'll still have to pay 4 life or put back the one you drew for the turn normally.

You only get out of the second part of the library's effect if you ended up not actually drawing any cards at all (because you replaced all 3 with some other effect)
