Can you put anything on the stack on top of Fleshbag Marauder to stop its sac ability?

Asked by Argy 7 years ago

Let's say I have Kalitas, Traitor of Ghet on the field and my Opponent casts Fleshbag Marauder.

In response can I cast Anguished Unmaking to kill the Marauder before it forces a sacrifice?

I think that I can't because the Marauder needs to resolve before Anguished Unmaking can target it, and as soon as it resolves the forced sac happens.

The only thing I think could stop the sac is a Counter spell.

Fleshbag Marauder's ability is a triggered ability that triggers when Fleshbag Marauder enters the battlefield. This ability uses the stack, so you can respond to it.

However, you can't prevent an ability from resolving by removing its source; abilities on the stack exist independently of their sources and will resolve regardless of whether you remove the source or not. You would need to end the turn or counter the ability to prevent it from resolving.
