Can you deal damage to Planeswalkers with burn spells that target players?

Can you redirect the damage on burn spells from players to Planeswalkers? Example: Lightning Bolt dealing 3 damage to Sorin, Grim Nemesis

Yes.

306.7. If noncombat damage would be dealt to a player by a source controlled by an opponent, that opponent may have that source deal that damage to a planeswalker the first player controls instead. This is a redirection effect (see rule 614.9) and is subject to the normal rules for ordering replacement effects (see rule 616). The opponent chooses whether to redirect the damage as the redirection effect is applied.

It's also worth noting that if you choose to redirect the damage, you must redirect all of the damage that would've gone to the player. For example, if your opponent has a Sorin, Lord of Innistrad at 1 loyalty, you can't cast Lightning Bolt targeting your opponent and redirect only 1 of the damage to Sorin. It's either all 3 or none.

Good to know!

Also worth noting that you don't have to announce if you're going to redirect the damage or not until the resolution of the spell/ability dealing the damage. Your opponent will have to respond without that knowledge and if asked, you're not obliged to tell them if you are or not.
