Can you cast spells like Silkwrap without targeting anything?

Asked by Deadz0512 8 years ago

For example, my opponent has creatures higher than 3 CMC like Hydra Broodmaster or AEtherling. Can I just cast Silkwrap and let it just stay there for my Starfield of Nyx?

Thanks in advance.

As a spell, Silkwrap doesn't have any targets, so you don't have to worry about that while casting it. If there aren't any targets for its triggered ability (starts with "when/whenever/at") when it enters the battlefield, then the trigger will be removed from the stack and ignored.

For the sake of completeness, be aware that any spell that requires targets cannot be cast unless you name a sufficient number of legal targets. You can't, for example, cast Hex unless you can target six different creatures.
