Can you avoid unearth triggers?

Asked by TheGamer 9 years ago

What I mean is using cards like Sundial of the Infinite or Conjurer's Closet to allow you too keep the creature for ever and not have to remove from the game. thanks in advance.

At the beginning of the end step, a creature returned to the battlefield with unearth is exiled. This is a delayed triggered ability, and it can be countered by effects such as Stifle or Voidslime that counter triggered abilities. If the ability is countered, the creature will stay on the battlefield and the delayed trigger won't trigger again. However, the replacement effect will still exile the creature when it eventually leaves the battlefield.

Triggered abilities use the stack, and you can let that ability go onto the stack and then use an ability like Sundial of the Infinite to end the turn and clear the stack.

One key thing to further point out here is that if you use a blink effect like Conjurer's Closet on your unearthed creature then it becomes a new object, so if it goes to leave the battlefield somehow later it will not be exiled, it will go to whatever zone it's supposed to go to. So if they bounce it, then it will go back to your hand. If they kill it, it will go to the graveyard.
