Can Thrummingbird's attack be directed at yourself?

I was wondering if Thrummingbird attack could be directed at yourself during your attack phase?
I was thinking that it would be nice if you could attack yourself for one damage to resolve the 'whenever combat damage is dealt to a player' to kick in the proliferate when you can't get to your opponent which has poison counters already...

If you can't touch your opponent's poison counters through combat damage triggers, go with other routes: Inexorable Tide, Contagion Clasp, Contagion Engine.
Also, no, of course you can't attack yourself.
