just in case

It can (the ability doesn't say "another target land"), but it's pointless to copy Thespian's Stage with itself.

Obviously the point is to have a Thespian Stage with 50 iterations of "2Tap: Thespian's Stage becomes a copy of target land and gains this ability"

Just in case an ability says "you can only spend colorless mana" or if the mana you copied became cumbersome in the end and you have no other legal targets

If you use it on itself after you've already used it on something else, it will stay the something else, and not go back to a bog standard Thespian's Stage

When something copies something else, you get first what is printed on the card, and among other things, the effects of any other copy effects modifying it.

So while you could turn Thespian's Stage into itself, if you copied Bayou and then activated it again choosing itself, it would become a Bayou with a second instance of the activated ability.
