Can The Mimeoplasm transform?

Asked by ThunderCrank 5 years ago

If i have The Mimeoplasm enter as Elusive Tormentor  Flip can i use the discard effect to transform the Mimeoplasm into Insidious Mist ? If yes, does it lose it the counters it got from the second creature?

Only double-faced cards can transform. If a single-sided card tells you to transform it, instead nothing happens.

701.27a To transform a permanent, turn it over so that its other face is up. Only permanents represented by double-faced cards can transform. (See rule 711, “Double-Faced Cards.”)

With regards to your second question, though the answer above rends this point moot for the specific plan you had, I wanted to explain how counters would work, in case it came up in a different context.

Generally, the transformed object is the same card. It does not change zones, it simply flips over. As such, it would retain the counters it previously had.

Some transform cards, however, have you exile them and return them to the battlefield transformed. Such cards enter as a new object, and thus would not retain any counters that were on the previous object.

Currently, that would only make a difference with Kytheon, Hero of Akros  Flip, as the transformed permanent can become a creature and attack.
