Can Strionic Resonator interact with Knowledge Pool?

It uses the words "Whenever a player," so I'm inclined to say yes. However, the "if the player does" clause makes me second guess.
If it does interact, what happens?

As had been said previously you can make a copy of the ability, but the "if that player does" clause prevents a second card from being cast off of the second to resolve ability since they cannot exile the spell a second time.

You can copy it with the resonator, it is a triggered ability. But whichever ability resolves second (the original) will not be able to exile the original spell, and so won't let you cast another card.
