Can I Strive Zada more than once?

Asked by AKTriple5 7 years ago

This is Kind of a two part question. If I am able to play a card like Rouse the Mob and activate it's strive cost to target the same creature twice? If so, if I just target Zada, Hedron Grinder with multiple strives, would each separate strive count toward his ability?

No, you cannot target the same card twice by paying strive costs more than once.

Also, even if you could, Zada, Hedron Grinder only cares that it was targeted by a spell, not how many times it was targeted. This can be important for cards like Common Bond, where targeting Zada, Hedron Grinder with both targets will still only create one copy per creature you control that it could target. (That still creates alot of +1/+1 going around, by the way)

yeah, i did read zada's ruling about how he can be the only target, otherwise the spell isn't copied, so certain spells like Incremental Growth wouldn't copy, but cards like Common Bond and those with strive don't necessarily say different target, just additional target. Plus if it did work, my thought was that his rulings say the whole spell is copied, so cards like Refocus would cause all my creatures to untap and to draw several cards, so maybe the strive cost after being paid would just count as a second ability almost like Feed the Clan, where this happens, but since this other thing happened, the effect doubles. anyway, thanks for clearing it up. You both were a great help.
