Can I permanently Lock an Opponent out of the Game with Timesifter ?

Asked by LiM3D 5 years ago

Im trying to make a Lantern Control Deck work in my Budget Modern League.

The part I struggle the most with is finding an apropriate Lock-Piece.

When I control our topdecks and can consistently get a Land on my opponents Library I get to take infinite turns with Timesifter right?

This is not a infinite a combo. You do not have a loop with a predetermined result. If you have to manipulate your opponents library different number of times in order to get a land on top, it is not a loop.

If you have say a Jace, the Mind Sculptor + Timesifter and say Emrakul, the Aeons Torn in hand, I think you have a resonable case for the judge that you can take infinite turns and short cut it. Or if you have Jace and non-land card, while the opponent has a land on top, I think this is grounds for unlimited amount of turns.

I don't want to shortcut. Just if I understood the Card correctly. Because if yes, i feel like this is the hard Lock Piece that my deck needed.

Just to reiterate, timesifter has a chance to fail and the number of turns it generates is not infinite.

Even if you somehow guarantee that your opponent will always have a land on top vs your non-land on top; you can take exactly N turns with Timesifter where N is either the number of your non-land permenanents (that cost more than 0) or their lands, whichever is smaller.

Note that the absolute max amount of turns you can take with Timesifter is equal to the amount of cards in your library, nothing more. This is because Timesifter exiles the top card. It’ll never go infinite without outside help such as Pull from Eternity and a way to shuffle back into the library.
