Can I name every card in the game if I can make infinite Pithing Needles?

Or can I only name cards that I can give the name of. I haven't memorized the names of all 16505 cards so...

For a tournament, to name a card you must be able to uniquely identify it. For a non tournament setting, you can pull out your computer and look at each card name, and systematically name them. In the former scenario, you can also only name cards that can be legally played in the format, so your list is shorter than every card in the game. In the latter scenario, your opponent will likely accept that every activated ability is shut down, unless they want to troll you harder than you're trolling them.

Where did you get the rule that you can't name a card that is illegal in the format?

I ask this because according to the Gather ruling on the Wish cycle, you can retrieve "any card from your collection" in an unsanctioned event, which possibly includes cards illegal in the format

Right, but that was refering to a sanctioned event (as indicated by "former"), where a wish cannot grab cards that aren't legal in the format. I used as a reference, which also indicated only needed a unique identifier rather than the actual card name.

And that link didn't post, sorry, used (https://blogs.magicjudges.org/rulestips/2012/11/tournament-tuesday-an-explanation-of-how-name-a-card-works/) as a reference. Can't figure out hyperlinks at the moment.
