Can I have any Dragonlord with it past form on battlefield?

Asked by TucoBZ 8 years ago

My question is about the legendary rule, I know that if I cast diffent planeswalker but with the same type I need to stay with only one of the instances, like Garruk Wildspeaker and Garruk, Caller of Beasts for example... But, is it the same to other cards that have other forms?

Like Dromoka, the Eternal and Dragonlord Dromoka...Or even Avacyn, Angel of Hope, Avacyn, Guardian Angel and Archangel Avacyn

My question is, in this case, can I have all this instances at the same time at the battlefield?

Planeswalkers are not subject to the legendary rule. They are subject to what is known as the "planeswalker uniqueness rule". Which is as you describe: if you control 2 or more planeswalkers with the same name, choose one and put the rest into your graveyard. When I say "Name" here, I refer to the name in the type line in the middle of the card.

The legendary rule is when you have two or more permanents that have the same name. (i.e. two or more Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx). You choose one of them, and put the rest into your graveyard. When I say "name" here, I refer to the actual name of the card at the top, beside the Mana Cost. You can certainly have Dromoka, the Eternal and Dragonlord Dromoka on the battlefield together because they do not share the exact same name.

Note that these two rules do not coincide. You can have Teferi, Temporal Archmage and Teferi, Mage of Zhalfir on the battlefield together.
