Can I clone a clone, to make a clone?

Asked by Drahydra 8 years ago

I Sultai Charmed my opponent's Phyrexian Metamorph. If I cast Body Double, and I choose to copy that same Phyrexian Metamorph, can I then choose to copy an artifact or creature on the battlefield, or has the ETB effect "already happened" and my Body Double dies as a 0/0 Phyrexian Metamorph?

The important part about clone effects is that they are replacement effects, not ETB triggers. This means that as Body Double enters the battlefield you can choose to have it enter as a copy of any card in a graveyard instead. You choose Phyrexian Metamorph and then you act as if that card is entering the battlefield instead. The card still has not entered the battlefield at this point, so you can apply the replacement effect from the Phyrexian Metamorph and have the card enter as a copy of any artifact or creature on the field. As long as that card doesn't have any replacement effects for entering the battlefield at this point your Body Double card enters as a copy of the chosen artifact or creature.
