Can I activate a sacrifice ability before butcher of malakirs?

I'm still trying to completely understand the priority aspect of this game. Say I have Generator Servant and an opponents creature dies, can I trigger it's sacrifice ability before Butcher of Malakir does. Assuming generator is my only creature!

You can activate abilities in response to other abilities either being triggered or activated (triggered in the case of Butcher of Malakir.

So, Butcher's ability would go on the stack and then you can activate Generator Servant's ability in response. Mind you that if you only have one other creature aside from Generator Servant and you sac the other creature to get the mana, Butcher of Malakir's ability will still be on the stack and still get to resolve. By that point you'll only have the Generator Servant and have to sac it.

Unless of course you're using it's mana to cast a creature that has flash, which you would have to cast in response to Butcher's trigger still being on the stack.

Note that only triggered abilities can trigger, and they trigger automatically. You don't manually trigger them.

Activated abilities, on the other hand, must be manually activated.

After a spell is cast, or an ability is activated or triggered, everyone gets a chance to make responses before the spell/ability starts to resolve. When your opponent's Butcher of Malakir triggers you're allowed to activate Generator Servant's ability in response. Note that the mana from Servant's ability will only be available until the end of the current step or phase. If you aren't able to use it by then it will empty from your mana pool.

@billpasdmf: If you have a creature with flash, you can wait until after Butcher of Malakir's ability resolves and then cast your creature. You aren't required to cast it before the ability resolves.

Also, Generator Servant's ability causes you to sacrifice Generator Servant. It doesn't allow you to sacrifice another creature.
