Can creatures re-evaluate attacking priorities?

Asked by NimbusNobody 6 years ago

This came up during a play through of Archenemy: Nicol Bolas. Bolas pulled the scheme For Each of You, a Gift, which makes tokens that have to attack certain players. But then we played Gideon Jura and activated his + ability, which makes creatures have to attack him if they can. So which will the creatures attack? The players that they're supposed to attack from the scheme, or Gideon?

The attacking player gets to choose for each one.

When there are any special requirements or restrictions involved in declaring attackers (or blockers), the way to determine a legal declaration is to see whether it satisfies the maximum number of requirements without violating any restrictions.

In your example each of the Horrors are subject to 2 requirements: "attack that specific player if able" and "attack Gideon Jura if able". It's impossible to fulfill both of them simultaneously, so the attacking player has to choose one. The attacking player makes a separate decision for each Horror.
