Can Captivating Vampire hit Color Protection?

I'm confused about Captivating Vampire's interaction with color protection. (ie; Emrakul, the Aeons Torn) The wording throws me off, since I'm not targeting it with Captivating Vampire itself, just using his ability.

For everything that "Protection from NN" defends against (damage, enchanting/equipping, blocking, targeting), it works for NN objects and abilities from NN sources.
However, it's very specific. In your example the ability is "Protection from colored spells". Captivating Vampire isn't a colored spell (an object can only be a spell while it's on the stack), so Emrakul, the Aeons Torn isn't safe from it. If we were talking about something with "Protection from black", like White Knight etc., then the Vampire's ability can't target it because the ability is coming from a black source.
