Boros Reckoner against Lifelink
Asked by Onyxio 9 years ago
Does Boros Reckoner first ability resolve before lifelink actions of the opponents Fiendslayer Paladin if Boros Reckoner is blocking with first strike?
if Boros Reckoner
has first strike, it would kill the Fiendslayer Paladin
before reckoner would take damage, so the first ability would not ever trigger since no damage was dealt to Boros Reckoner
. So fiendslayer would not deal any damage so no life gain from lifelink.
And just so you know damage dealt and lifelink happen at the same time, so if boros didn't have fiststrike, then both creatures would deal damage, and lifegain from lifelink would take place at the same time, then Boros Reckoner 's first ability would trigger and go on the stack.

Fiendslayer Paladin has first strike...So if lifelink and damage happen at the same time, who gets priority first...the 2 damage from boros or the lifegain? Because if the opponent has 2 life left and the 2 damage goes through the opponent would lose correct?

Opps, sorry I overlooked that.....but your opponent would gain life as soon as the damage is dealt, then reckoner's ability goes on the stack, for 2 to opponent.....so his life would not change....

lifelink no longer uses the stack, it happens at the same time as damage

ah ok...not to ask 2 questions in single Q&A but this was all related to Sunbond being on the Fiendslayer Paladin . So if say the paladin was a 4/4 and attacked and I blocked with Boros Reckoner he would get his counters before I dealt 4 damage back to him?

To clarify, because there seems to be some confusion here:
If the Boros Reckoner has first strike and blocks a Fiendslayer Paladin , they will deal damage to each other simultaneously. Lifelink modifies the effects of damage, so the Paladin's controller gains 2 life. Then, the game checks for triggers and sees that the Reckoner has taken damage, so the Reckoner's trigger goes on the stack. Its controller chooses a target, and once the trigger resolves the Reckoner will deal 2 damage to said target.
Long story short, the life gain from lifelink happens first.

Sunbond and the Reckoner's ability are both triggers which go on the stack at the same time (after damage has been dealt, because they both trigger off the dealing of damage [because lifelink modifies the effects of damage]). Which resolves first depends on whose turn it is. If it is the Paladin's controller's turn, then the Reckoner will resolve first. If it is the Reckoner's controller's turn, the Sunbond will resolve first. This is because triggers are put on the stack in APNAP (active-player-non-active-player) order, with the active player being the player whose turn it is, and then they resolve in the opposite order from which they are put on the stack.
So, in the scenario where the Paladin is attacking, the Reckoner's ability could be used to kill the Paladin before the Paladin got counters from Sunbond.

I believe it happens at the same time. One person gains life and the other gets to choose to do 2 damage to target creature or player.
