Blood Sun and taplands

Asked by Lurac 6 years ago

As I see it, Blood Sun's static ability can't affect lands before they come into play, which would mean that a land that "enters the battlefield tapped" will still do that, while any triggered etb ability that a land may have is disregarded. This seems intuitive to me, but I hear other people saying otherwise. If I'm wrong, I'd be happy if someone explained to me exactly why.

To make it clear: What happens when Blood sun is in play and I play a bounceland, like Izzet Boilerworks?

Does it enter tapped? (I think yes)

Does it return a land? (I think no)

"If a land has an ability that causes it to enter the battlefield tapped, it will lose that ability before it applies. The same is also true of any other abilities of a land that modify how it enters the battlefield or apply as it enters the battlefield, such as the first ability of Unclaimed Territory."

Apologies for the double posting, but my previous answer was incomplete, and I managed to mess up the source link.

If a land has an ability that causes it to enter the battlefield tapped, it will lose that ability before it applies. The same is also true of any other abilities of a land that modify how it enters the battlefield or apply as it enters the battlefield, such as the first ability of Unclaimed Territory.

If a land has an ability that triggers when it enters the battlefield, it will lose that ability before it triggers.

If a land has an ability that continuously changes the types of other lands (such as Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth does), that ability will apply before Blood Sun removes that lands abilities. If a land has an ability that grants abilities to other objects, Blood Sun will stop it from doing so.

If a land gains an ability after Blood Sun has entered the battlefield, it keeps that ability.

Thank you very much, ravhin9027. So that means most nonbasic lands get better with Blood Sun. Weird.

I will use it with bouncelands in commander, but i'm wondering i there's a place for it in modern.

@Lurac Maze's End because all the gates come into play untapped which makes it go much faster.
