Birthing Pod vs. Krosan Grip

Asked by Lazarus 8 years ago

I was wondering, If my opponent plays Birthing Pod during his turn, can I use Krosan Grip to destroy the artifact before the player can activate its ability?

When he casts Birthing Pod he retains priority.

If he activates the ability of Birthing Pod, you get priority to respond and can cast Krosan Grip at that time but the ability will still be on the stack.

If he casts Birthing Pod, and then without activating it, casts another spell or activates another ability or passes priority to you to advance the step/phase of the game, then you can cast Krosan Grip and he'll be unable to respond by activating the Pod due to Split Second.

Well because of split second and the fact that you can only activate Pod at sorcery speed.

This comes down to approximately the same question as Lightning Bolt on Jace, the Mind Sculptor as he ETB. You can not do anything on an opponent's turn until they pass priority. The only times priority is passed is either to resolve a spell/ability or advance the phase.

Note that it isn't to do with holding priority after casting. It's because priority is given to the active player when a spell or ability resolves. We're concerned with the permanent, not the spell.
