Aven Mindcensor and Tempt with Discover timing of interaction.

So the topic arose: Somebody casts Tempt with Discovery and my friend attempts to cast Aven Mindcensor for its effect AFTER 3 people have decided to search beyond the first. He attempts to cast Aven in order to affect the opponents searches but only after 3 people declare search. The question is: Does this work? Is there a period of time possible to do this. To my knowledge that is not how it works but they wouldn't believe me without a second opinion from someone smarter than me.

No player receives priority during the resolution of a spell or ability. Unless a spell or ability specifically allows a player to cast a spell or play an ability during its resolution (such as Unexpected Results), no one can actually play spells or abilities during resolution.

So your friend would either have to cast Aven Mindcensor before Tempt with Discovery begins to resolve, or wait until it's done. If they allow three people to do the search first, then the spell is already resolving and they can't put Aven Mindcensor on the stack until Tempt with Discovery is completely resolved and cleared from the stack.
