Avatar of the Resolute and Hardened Scales

Asked by Caligula 8 years ago

So I was playing on untap today and I had an Experiment One with a Hardened Scales out on the field and proceeded to play Avatar of the Resolute.

Now correct me if I'm wrong but I can choose to stack the 2 counters on Experiment One (one for evolve, one for scales) first before avatar can trigger and that would cause Avatar of the Resolute to enter the battlefield with 2 counters as well, am I missing something?

I didn't want to argue and it actually cost me the match.

The Avatar wouldn't enter with any counters.

Avatar of the Resolute has an ability that modifies how it enters the battlefield, not a triggered ability. It looks for any creatures you control with a +1/+1 counter on it and applies one to itself for each one it sees as it enters. Once it's on the field, the ability is done.

Once Evolve triggers (Hardened Scales also doesn't have a triggered ability, but rather an ability that modifies an event) the Avatar is already on the field and won't get any benefit from it.
